The
PINK Embassy/LGBT Pro Albania team met on Saturday, 23 February 2013 with a
group of organizations that work for LGBT rights in Kosovo. Representatives of
Libertas Kosova, who were also the organizers of this study trip to Albania , Elisium and Qesh, visited the PINK
Embassy offices in order to know closer the LGBT organizations in Albania and be
able to exchange ideas.
The
meeting was also the result of efforts from LGBT activists from both countries
too coordinate their activities and collaborate more closely in regional
projects and events. Even though many activists have had the possibility to
meet in previous events the latter was a valuable experience in order to share
experiences from both countries. Often, the discussions brought up similar and
different problems, in a way which meant more collaboration and coordination
was needed.
Specifically,
taking into account the common cultural heritage at the discussion similarities
were noticed in relation to how society displays its homophobia as well as the
challenges that LGBT people face in society. In this sense it was like finding
old friends and talk to them about your own problems, which they could
familiarize with easily.
PINK
Embassy and organizations from Kosovo – Libertas, Qesh and Elisium – decided to
keep contacts and be present at respective events and initiatives in a more
active way. The LGBT movement in the region is closely related to dynamics of
respective countries. Therefore a closer coordination of the LGBT movement in
the region and exchange of experiences and best practice is a step forward in
the entire region.
